Smart’s network services lauded by German org

Smart Communications Inc.’s network connectivity services received the “Best in Test” award from German independent organization umlaut.

Smart was lauded for its “best rated upload speeds, download speeds, and latency experience.”

According to umlaut, Smart scored 745 out of 1,000 points based on the organization’s criteria. Umlaut’s report, which included 1.9 billion samples collected from February to July this year, indicated the company’s efficiency in mobile HD/UHD videos, gaming, and OTT voice classes.

"Our investments over the years in strengthening our integrated fixed and wireless networks have enabled us to deliver enhanced mobile services to our subscribers across the country," said PLDT and Smart Network Head Eric Santiago.

Smart has been a recipient of the “Best in Test” award since 2019. Its network was recognized in 2021 despite the impact of Covid-19, and cited for its performance during the 30th Southeast Asian Games in December 2019.

The company and umlaut collaborated to provide network services during the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 to the games held in the Mall of Asia Arena, Smart-Araneta Coliseum and the Philippine Arena. It also gave a seamless customer experience to hotel delegates and international media guests.

Smart’s mobile 3G, 4G/LTE, and 5G networks cover 97 percent of the country’s population.

As the wireless subsidiary of PLDT Inc., Smart’s network capacities are strengthened by PLDT’s ongoing efforts to increase its fiber infrastructure. PLDT’s international and domestic fiber footprint has crossed 1.1 million kilometers as of June 2023.

Smart and PLDT have stated their commitment to the “digitalization thrust to narrow the digital divide.”

"We will continue to fortify and optimize our network, utilizing the latest technologies to make it more resilient and responsive to the needs of our customers. These will also support our vision to become the undisputed network leader in the Philippines, delivering innovative solutions in the most cost-effective ways," said Santiago.
