Before becoming UPM’s Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development in 2014, Tee served as PGH Assistant to the Director for Public Affairs and Spokesperson from 2004 to 2010.
Tee completed his Master's in Business Administration at Virata School of Business University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) in 2015.
Tee will replace the current UPM Chancellor Dr. Carmencita D. Padilla on Oct. 31.

The University of the Philippines Manila (UPM) on Thursday, Oct. 5, announced its new chancellor, Dr. Michael L. Tee.
Tee was UP Manila’s Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development before the UP Board of Regents appointed him as the new UP Manila Chancellor. His appointment will take effect on Oct. 31.
Before becoming UPM’s Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development in 2014, Tee served as Philippine General Hospital (PGH) Assistant to the Director for Public Affairs and Spokesperson from 2004 to 2010.
He was also the Director of UPM Information, Publication, and Public Affairs Office in 2011; Editor-in-Chief of UPM Journal for issues in 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2014; Director of UP Manila Information, Publication, and Public Affairs Office from November 2014 to March 2015; Ospital ng Muntinlupa Chair, Department of Medicine in 2010; and Faculty Medical Arts Building Medical Staff Organization President from 2012 to 2014.
Tee completed his Master's in Business Administration at Virata School of Business University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) in 2015; Master's in Health Professions Education, at the National Teachers' Training Center for Health Professions at UPM in 2007; and Fellowship in Rheumatology in PGH, UPM in 2004, where he received the Ramon Abarquez Award for Most Outstanding Fellow and Clemente Gatmaitan Award for Most Outstanding Fellow in Research.
He acquired a residency in Internal Medicine at PGH, UPM in 2002 and a doctor of Medicine at the College of Medicine at UPM in 1998, where he became an awardee of the Eusebio S. Garcia Award for Most Outstanding Leader, Most Outstanding Intern in Medicine, Most Outstanding Intern in Surgery, Most Outstanding Intern in Family and Community Medicine, and Most Outstanding Intern in Otorhinolaryngology; Bachelor of Science in Biology at the College of Science in UPD in 1993; and graduated as Valedictorian at the Philippine Pasay Chung Hua Academy in 1998.
Tee will replace the current UPM Chancellor Dr. Carmencita D. Padilla.
Before concluding her term as UPM Chancellor on Oct. 31, Padilla achieved the distinction of becoming the 43rd National Scientist of the Philippines, the highest honor bestowed upon scientists in the country.

Padilla was the 40th UP alumni, the 10th from UPM, and the third UP Manila Chancellor to receive the award.
She was appointed as UPM Chancellor in 2014 and made numerous notable contributions to the field of medicine.
