CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Lordan Suan denied the allegation of a broadcaster who had worked in their family-owned radio station here that they did not offer assistance when his brother passed away.
REP. SUAN
Suan said anchorman Emil Lledo allegedly refused help because “he has pre-meditated plans” to destroy his father’s name, Agapito Suan Jr., one of the candidates for chairman in Barangay Carmen, among the biggest and wealthiest barangays in this city.
“It’s impossible not to help him knowing that Radio Ultra is just located in front of my Alagang Tingog Center, where we help around 70 to 100 people per day,” Suan said in a Facebook live interview on Saturday, October 28.
Lledo, in a Facebook post two days ago, thanked Mayor Rolando Uy here for providing assistance following the death of his brother. He made a separate online post that day saying that his employment at Radio Ultra was on “floating” status after expressing gratitude to Uy's benevolence.
On October 27, Lledo went live on Facebook, saying that he no longer has a job.
The Cagayan de Oro solon said that they were aware that Lledo’s brother died. He said assistance for Lledo was being processed when he allegedly backed out.
Lledo strongly denied the claim, saying no help came from the Suans even after his brother’s burial. He added that the radio station manager, the owner of the company, and the staff of Rep. Suan knew what happened to him but not even a single centavo was given.
“The city government helped me. They (the Suan family) were upset when I accepted the assistance from the city government, which is their opponent,” Lledo said.
Rep. Suan also said that Lledo was called out a few weeks ago by the elder Suan because of his alleged below-the-belt comments of a certain doctor over the radio. Lledo denied this.
A former Radio Ultra employee brought up Lledo’s situation in a press conference on Thursday, October 26, where four former staff members of Councilor Agapito Eriberto Suan here – the elder Suan’s other son – exposed the alderman's alleged unfair labor practices.
Rep. Suan described the press conference as “traditional politics” where political opponents focused on “relentless black propaganda.” He said that the press conference was conducted to destroy someone’s image.
BenCyrus Ellorin, political spokesperson for Mayor Uy, said the press conference on Thursday that he moderated was sponsored by the campaign supporters of Raineir Joaquin Uy, the son of Mayor Uy and the lone opponent of the older Suan for chairman of Barangay Carmen.
Rainier was sought for comment but he has no reply as of posting time.
Rep. Suan said he told his family not to take revenge as they want to introduce progressive campaigning, focusing on different platforms for the betterment of the people.
