In the heart of Mindanao, an inspiring tale unfolds as Mayor Marcos Mamay of Nunungan, Lanao del Norte, unveils his remarkable life journey through the silver screen in the much-anticipated biopic, "Mamay: The Great Man of Nunungan."

This cinematic masterpiece promises entertainment and a profound exploration of one man's mission to transform his community and challenge stereotypes about Muslim territories.

The movie sheds light on Mayor Mamay's challenges during his upbringing, including his dedication to academic excellence and involvement in family feuds, or “rido.”

The film highlights his unyielding commitment to peace and development, transforming Nunungan into a thriving community during his tenure.

"Mamay: The Great Man of Nunungan" boasts a stellar cast led by Jeric Raval, who brilliantly embodies the life of Mayor Marcos Mamay. Ara Mina portrays his supportive wife, while Teejay Marquez captures the essence of the young Mamay. Backed by an ensemble of actors and directed by Neal "Buboy" Tan, the film weaves advocacy in positively impacting the industry.

Mayor Mamay's foray into the film industry marks a significant step towards empowering local talent in Mindanao. His role as the Executive Adviser of the Actor’s Guild reflects his commitment to creating job opportunities for artists and workers behind the scenes. Mayor Mamay supports the career of actor Evan Arellano, whose admiration for Kapuso actor Alden Richards mirrors his passion for the craft. His initiative to include Arellano in his projects exemplifies his commitment to providing opportunities for budding talents.

"I am very thankful to Mayor Mamay because he is willing to help in my career. He's passionate, and I will do my best to fulfill my role," says Evan.

Mayor Mamay declared that he saw the potential in Evan to be a good actor.

When asked if he tried to submit the film in MMFF 2023, Mayor Mamay said: "No, we're not yet ready. I think there's a perfect date for our movie. I am very hands-on, especially in editing. The movie was almost 3 hours long, and we had to cut it down."

He also admitted that he is very thankful to Director Neal because he allows him to contribute ideas. For example, there are certain restrictions in Muslim culture, so Mayor Mamay discussed with the director and removed scenes accordingly.

Mayor Mamay envisions Nunungan as the venue for shooting because they have Mount Inayawan Range Natural Park, which is now part of the ASEAN Heritage Park, Nunungan Lake, and Raspberries.

He also said the people of Nunungan were excited when the movie started to shoot in the area.

"They were amazed. They were interested, and I want them to understand Nunungan fully. I want to raise awareness about our many attractions and let them know it's safe to visit our place," the mayor stated.
