The Manila local government announced on Thursday, Oct. 19, that it bagged several awards for its efforts in promoting tourism.
The 18th Pearl Awards was held by the Department of Tourism- Philippines and the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (DOT- ATOP) at the Boracay Newscoast Hotel in Malay, Aklan last Oct. 5.
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan commended Charlie Dungo, director of the Department of Tourism, Culture and Arts of Manila (DTCAM), for good leadership in executing all tourism initiatives.
Dungo likewise thanked the mayor whose support has made all the tourism plans easier to implement and the ATOP-DOT for the awards bestowed upon Manila.
The awards received by the DTCAM are as follows:
- Grand Winner- Best Tourism Promotions Award: Brochure – City for the “Timeless Treasures: Discover the Manila Clock Tower Museum Brochure”
- Grand Winner — Best Tourism Event: Religious Festival – City for “Traslacion 2022: A Transformative Religious Event”
- First runner up – Best Tourism Week or Monthly Celebration Award – City for “Tourism Reboot: Creating Opportunities for Manila
- Second runner up — Best Tourism Promotions Video Awards – City for “Anak ng Maynila"
The city was also given a certificate of recognition for being a finalist in the Best Oriented Local Government Unit Award- City Category.
Mayor Honey thanked the award-giving body for the recognition. She said the awards will serve as an inspiration for her and other city officials to strive more toward a “Magnificent Manila.”
The awards, she noted, are a validation that the city of Manila is on the right track in promoting tourism locally and internationally.
