Several houses in Barangay Sambag 2 were affected when a riprap wall collapsed following incessant rains here in the past few days.
Barangay Sambag 2 Captain Ryan Aznar said the declaration was made during the council’s special session on Wednesday, October 18.
Placing the barangay under the state of calamity will allow the council to release an emergency fund, said Aznar.
“The fund will be used to repair the riprap so that residents there will no longer be in danger,” said Aznar.
Aznar said the riprap wall in Sitio Kawayan collapsed due the strong river current.
Thirty-eight individuals were evacuated and were temporarily staying in the barangay’s gymnasium.
At least six houses were cordoned off to prevent untoward incidents from happening, Aznar said.
