ULAP, UP Resilience Institute meet for disaster management tie-up with LGUs

Union of Local Authority of the Philippines (ULAP) national president Dakila Cua has discussed with officials of the University of the Philippines Resilience Institute (UPRI)  the potential partnership on strengthening the resilience measures of the local government units (LGUs).

In a statement, Cua and UPRI executive Director Alfredo Mahar Francisco Lagmay led other officials in the orientation which dealt on the ‘Drainage Master Plan, Flood Control, Landslide, Climate Change Adaptation and DRRM (Disaster Risk Reduction Management) Capacity’ that could be designed relative to the terrains of the various localities.

“The orientation was followed by a tour of the UP NOAH (Nationwide Operational Assessments of Hazards) Center,” ULAP said.

UP NOAH undertakes advanced disaster science research, comprehensive and multidisciplinary assessment of hazards while developing accessible tools that enable the LGUs, community leaders, policy makers, planners, families and individuals to prevent and mitigate disasters. 

The UPRI is the service and the research arm of the University of the Philippines in contributing to the country’s efforts in climate change mitigation and adaptation that recognizes the centrality of empowering local communities at the heart of resilience and disaster management.
