Meralco Power Academy (MPA) has received certification as a recognized training institution (RTI) from the Department of Energy (DOE). It can now provide training for Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EEC) Professionals.
The training follows the guidelines of the DOE's Government Energy Management Program (GEMP), which aims to reduce government monthly electricity and petroleum consumption through energy efficiency and conservation practices.
The program includes government agencies, corporations, local units, state universities, and colleges.
MPA must adopt training modules and conduct thorough assessments for EEC Professionals under the GEMP. The academy is responsible for maintaining quality, fairness, and professionalism in the energy field.
Since 2015, MPA has been a leading energy education provider.

Meralco Power Academy (MPA) received certification from the Department of Energy (DOE) which considers it a recognized training institution (RTI).
MPA, the education provider unit of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), can now conduct the prescribed capability-building training for Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EEC) Professionals.
Meralco’s energy tutelage will follow the guidelines under the DOE’s Government Energy Management Program (GEMP).
The GEMP’s goal is to minimize the government’s monthly consumption of electricity and petroleum products. This will be done through utilizing energy efficiency and conservation practices.
The management program would also encompass other government agencies, corporations, and local units, as well as state universities and colleges.
Because MPA has been recently recognized as a training institution, the academy must follow the RTI’s main responsibilities.
This includes adopting training modules for EEC Professionals under the GEMP.
The modules must also conduct thorough assessments to evaluate whether or not they are eligible to be trained under the Power Academy.
The MPA is required to analyze the pieces of training as well as to observe quality, fairness, and professionalism in the field of energy.
Since Meralco has been recognized as an energy training ground, annual reports to the DOE are mandated and should be sent on time.
Moreover, the institution must comply with the EEC Act, its rules and regulations, and other policies within the Training and Development of Professionals in the country.
MPA President Nixon G. Hao proudly shared that their recent certification cements the academy’s commitment to support the government’s agenda on energy efficiency and conservation.
“We, at Meralco Power Academy, are dedicated to empowering EEC Professionals with the skills and proficiency needed to navigate our rapidly changing power industry,” he said. “We commit to upholding the highest standards in our capacity-building programs by leveraging Meralco's 120 years of experience and energy expertise.”
In relation to the Power Academy’s recognition, they received a previous certification last August 2022 for being the first RTI under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Law.
Because of this, Meralco continues to offer training and certifications for Energy Managers and Auditors in the Philippines.
The MPA has been the leading energy education since 2015.
They have trained over 1,000 energy management and audit professionals from over 400 various corporate industries.
The academy pursues its advocacy on energy efficiency and renewable energy programs which would prove the level of expertise earned by Meralco for over 120 years. (Gabriell Christel Galang)
