DPWH rushes work on Aklan road, says it would boost local tourism when completed

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Western Visayas said that it is fast-tracking the construction of an access road that is expected to boost the tourism industry and marine economy in Makato, Aklan.

DPWH Regional Office 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno said the P33.3 million project traverses the potential tourist attractions in the area.

She said the access road project is in convergence with the Department of Tourism (DOT) and spans 1.74 kilometers long and 6.10 meters wide.

The DPWH Aklan District Engineering Office has concreted 550 lineal meters of the road and is expediting the paving of the remaining portion of the access road.

“When completed, the tw-lane access road project will provide a better roadway leading to beaches in Barangay Baybay and to Bakhawan Park located along the river in Barangay Alibagon, which can potentially boost the economy and tourism industry in Makato,” Bueno explained.

Located along a vast water area, Bueno stated that the neighboring barangays of Tugas, Calimbajan, Baybay, and Alibagon are also expected to benefit from the new access road as it will hasten travel to the fishing facilities, thereby helping improve the local industry and economy. (Chito A. Chavez)
