Emo trap reaches high point with Soultary’s new song 'Blocked'

Soultary’s 'Blocked' is released Jan. 13 in digital stores under Bandido Rekords, a division of Widescope Entertainment.

The new year is a perfect time for new songs to make push and become hits. One song attempts not just to become a viral track, but likewise to serve as a key representation of emo trap, a genre fast-rising in the current local music scene.

Soultary’s “Blocked” officially breaks out upon its release today, January 13. The timing, just the second Friday of the fresh year, and a month before Valentine’s Day, appears to be perfect as the listening public eyes for new tracks to groove along with. This year is anticipated as a bright one for both recording and gig acts. Besides, with the pandemic tapering off and the concert scene back alive and kicking, new genres to set the era’s tone are very much welcome.

Driven by a mix of fast beats and slow, catchy melodies, “Blocked” is poised to push emo trap to new heights in this part of the music sphere.

Soultary’s latest single vividly depicts the frustration and feelings that come with blocking someone or being blocked on social media. The track flows on the strength of its simple but strong hook and singable rap lines.  It is full of quick, relatable, and surprisingly heartfelt verses about the back and forth nature of romantic relationships.

“Blocked” justifies cutting someone off while also sympathizing with the unsolved feelings that can linger after getting blocked.

Penned by the four-man group, “Blocked” is released under Bandido Rekords, a division of Widescope Entertainment. The recording definitely benefited from the troika of executive producer Vic de Vera, supervising producer Neil Gregorio, and producer Paulo Golding who is more popularly known by his stage name King Promdi.

In his capacity as A&R executive, the King Promdi has been in collaboration with the top honchos of Widescope Entertainment in helping grow the popularity of emo trap.

Soultary was formed via the serendipitous meeting of its members on social media.  This collective force of aspiring musicians namely, Mirikle, Keyaru, L Frost, and Liens saw each other’s passion for making music. Not long after meeting online, they further discovered how their interests truly aligned.

In February 2022, they eventually decided to venture out into the music scene under the name Soultary.

Their love for nostalgia and natural sentimentality have weaved through their music, from their debut hit song “Ayusin” to their recent projects. Their audiences are admiring the quartet both for their lyricism and bold beats that sustain and hit right home.

All four Soultary members come from different places -- Quezon City, Marikina, and Bulacan. Their bond as a band stresses that music does bring people closer together, especially if it’s founded on respect and a common love for an engaging type of music.

Emo-trap is a kind of genre allowing those who love the beat mixes of rap and hip-hop music to shine, requiring more lyricism and vulnerability from the artist to be able to connect to a song.

Soultary is a good fit. “Blocked” is the right song.
