DASOL, Pangasinan -- A woman died while her husband was injured when their motorcycle crashed after avoiding a stray cat on the national highway in Barangay Amalbalan here on New Year's Eve.
Police identified the victims as Diosdado Cerna, 54, and his wife, Estrella, 53.
The couple was on their way home to celebrate the New Year when a stray cat crossed the road.
Diosdado tried to avoid the animal but lost control of the steering handle and crashed.
He sustained minor injuries while his wife, who was the backrider, sustained severe injuries, particularly in the head.
They were rushed to the Dasol Community Hospital where Estrella was declared dead on arrival by attending physician Maricris Galvez.
