'Goring' maintains strength; LPA outside PAR develops into tropical depression


Super Typhoon (STY) Goring continued to persist in strength while moving south southeastward east-northeast of coastal waters of Casiguran, Aurora Province, the state weather bureau said on Sunday, Aug. 27.

In its latest bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said STY Goring maintained its maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 230 kph.

The super typhoon was spotted 95 kilometers (km) east of Casiguran, Aurora, and was moving "slowly" in a southeastward direction.

LPA develops into tropical depression

Meanwhile, PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the Low Pressure Area (LPA) that was being monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has now developed into a Tropical Depression (TD).

The said Tropical Depression is currently located at a distance of 2,325 km east of central Luzon.

“Kasalukuyan, malayo pa itong TD at wala pang epekto sa ating bansa. (Currently, the TD is still far and has no effect on our country),” he said.

Areas with TCWS signal  

Meanwhile, PAGASA said Signal No. 3 is still hoisted in eastern portion of Isabela (Divilacan, Palanan, Dinapigue) and the extreme northern portion of Aurora (Dilasag).

The eastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Peñablanca, Baggao, Gattaran, Lal-Lo, Gonzaga, Santa Teresita, Buguey, Santa Ana, Enrile, Tuguegarao City), the central portion of Isabela (Maconacon, Cabagan, Tumauini, San Pablo, Benito Soliven, San Guillermo, Jones, Echague, San Agustin, Angadanan, City of Cauayan, Naguilian, Gamu, Santa Maria, Santo Tomas, Delfin Albano, Quirino, Burgos, Reina Mercedes, Alicia, Luna, Quezon, Mallig, Roxas, San Manuel, Aurora, Cabatuan, San Mateo, San Isidro, San Mariano, Ilagan City), the northern portion of Aurora (Casiguran, Dinalungan), and the eastern portion of Quirino (Maddela) are under Signal No. 2.

Signal No. 1 is still up in Batanes, the rest of Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, the rest of Aurora, the rest of Quirino, the rest of Isabela, Apayao, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Kalinga, Abra, eastern portion of Ilocos Norte (Pagudpud, Adams, Vintar, Carasi, Nueva Era, Banna, Marcos, Dingras, Solsona, Piddig, Dumalneg, Bangui), Pollilo Islands, eastern portion of Benguet (Bokod, Buguias, Kabayan, Mankayan), eastern portion of Nueva Ecija (Carranglan, Pantabangan, Bongabon, Gabaldon, Laur, Rizal), and Calaguas Islands.


Gale warning signal

The state weather bureau hoisted gale warning signals over Luzon's northern, eastern, and southern portions.

At the same time, PAGASA also raised a gale warning over the western coast of Western Visayas.

Due to this warning, PAGASA said, "disruption in civilian maritime activities is expected over these areas (e.g., suspension of sea travel) due to hazardous sea conditions."
