DSWD-Western Visayas chief warns fixers

ILOILO CITY – Department of Social Welfare and Development-6 (Western Visayas) Director Carmelo Nochete has warned fixers to cease and desist from their nefarious activities or face arrest and criminal cases.

“Wala sang lugar ang mga fixers sa DSWD. Ang maghimo sang amo sini nga pang biktima sa mga tawo paga kasuhan sang amon ahensya (Fixers have no place in DSWD. The DSWD will file the necessary cases against them),” said Nochete, a lawyer.

Nochete made the statement after police arrested a suspected fixer in an entrapment operation in a mall near the regional office of the DSWD here.

The suspect was reportedly asking people to become beneficiaries of the DSWD cash aid program known as Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS).

“Those who are seeking to avail of the services are already in crisis situation because of either need for medication, hospitalization, burial or other crisis situation. To take advantage of their situation when they are at their lowest points of their lives is intolerable and contemptible,” added Nochete.

The DSWD-6 field office had an unexpected influx of people seeking assistance under its AICS program.
