Head coach Anton Altamirano admitted the lack of conditioning affected the team's performance, but is using it as a motivation to perform better in the coming legs.
"It was a tough reality check for us. We're still not in game shape and it only tells us that we need to strive harder if we want to progress further," he said on Tuesday.
Wilcon Depot fell short in advancing to the Leg 1 semifinals at Ayala Malls Manila Bay, bowing to Terrafirma, 20-18, in their quarterfinal clash.
TH Tumalip led Wilcon Depot with seven points and six rebounds, while Yutien Andrada had four.
Ael Banal had a rough day in the quarters as he shot 3-of-13 from the field, as Keith Datu was also neutralized and held to just three points and two boards.
Jason Tan and Red Cachuela paced Terrafirma with six points apiece.
Nonetheless, the guest team's performance in Day One is a promising sign for Altamirano.
Wilcon Depot topped Pool B stunning Cavitex, 18-16 before clipping Purefoods, 18-13, and disposing San Miguel, 21-16, to show that it's no pushover in the local halfcourt league.
The team will now look to build on the learnings from this exit with Leg 2 set on July 10 and 11 at Ayala Malls Circuit in Makati.
