Navotas gov’t opens renovated sports complex, distributes cash grant to solo parents

The Navotas City government opened the newly renovated sports complex and distributed cash assistance to 200 solo parents on Wednesday, June 21, as part of its celebration of the 16th Cityhood Anniversary.

“The Navotas Sports Complex bore witness to some of our city’s milestone events. Most notably, this place served as our mega swabbing and vaccination center during the peak of the pandemic,” Navotas Mayor John Rey Tiangco said.

“We have improved the facility to provide a better experience to Navoteños when we hold events here,” he added.

The sports complex now features a full-length basketball court, fully air-conditioned dugouts, and a gym.

Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) players LA Tenorio, Terrence Romeo, and Paul Lee, who attended the event as special guests, encouraged the city residents, especially the youth, to get into sports and adopt an active lifestyle.

A basketball exhibition game between Team JRT composed of city councilors, and Team DepEd- Navotas, which included Navotas Schools Division Superintendent Meliton Zurbano and teachers from different public schools in Navotas, was also held after the event.

The city government also distributed P2,000 cash aid to 200 registered solo parents on the same day.

Tiangco recognized the hardships and sacrifices of the beneficiaries for their families.

“We hope that through this small amount, we can help you provide the needs of your families. We also urge other solo parents to register and secure their IDs to get their due benefits,” the mayor said.

The city government said parents must apply for or renew their solo parent identification cards and undergo validation by the City Social Welfare and Development Office to qualify for the assistance.
