Ilocos Norte governor meets Chinese envoy to boost ties


LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte – Ilocos Norte Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc met Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian at his official residence in Makati City on Monday, May 16, to boost the province’s relations with China.

In a report from the communications and media office of the provincial government, Manotoc and Huang discussed opportunities in mutual sectors tourism, agriculture, and energy prior to the visit of an Ilocos Norte delegation to Shandong and Guangdong provinces in China from May 17 and 19.

They also discussed the deep friendship between the Philippines and China.

Manotoc will be accompanied by representatives from the provincial government and the food and agriculture, renewable energy, tourism and creative industries, trade and investment promotion, and education sectors in Ilocos Norte.

The trade mission will further strengthen the relationship between Shandong province, a sister province of Ilocos Norte since 2002, and establish potential collaborations with Guangdong province.

Manotoc will seek more Chinese enterprises to invest in Ilocos Norte, particularly agriculture, tourism, education, renewable energy, and people-to-people exchanges during the visit.
