Samsonite launches Luggage Trade-In campaign, furthering sustainability commitment

Here's why trading in your old luggage can help the planet


With an uptick in travel, or "revenge travel" as many call it, Samsonite, the world's most recognized luggage brand, deems this summer the most opportune time to launch its Luggage Trade-In offer. The campaign is in support of the World Wide Fund for Nature and to further its commitment to sustainability and the planet.

Along with local partners WWF Philippines and Envirotech, the luggage brand is calling for trade-ins of any brand or size and offering up to 35 percent off on Samsonite's Oc2Lite and Niar models.

The launch event was held earlier today, April 25, 2023, at Manila House in Taguig City. It was led by Samsonite Philippines Country Head Michael Corpuz, along with Samsonite SEA Assistant Director for Marketing and Brand Strategy Hazlina Dayangku, WWF Philippines Ambassador Karen Ibasco, and Envirotech Marketing Head John Cedro.

“More than being the brand of choice, Samsonite takes you on its responsible journey of innovation and sustainability,” said Corpuz. “We are proud to launch the Samsonite trade-in program as part of this journey. It all starts from how our bags are designed and made. We ensure durability and the use of recyclable materials to keep our products away from landfills for as long as possible, and to reduce our impact on the planet.”

For every trade-in purchase, Samsonite will donate P100 to WWF Philippines. As for Envirotech, the Davao-based recycling company will transform traded luggage into new school chairs for Labo Elementary School in Marinduque.

With this, the luggage brand completes a full circle with its customer journey. "A lot of times, customers don't really know what to do, and so we ask everyone to be part of this initiative, and we will do everything we can," Dayangku explained. "We will partner with all the agencies, and we will map it out with our partners to see how we can champion this effort. This is just the beginning of what we are doing in the Philippines, and I'm sure there are a lot more things that we can do in the future."

Sustainability is in Samsonite's DNA as a global brand. Dayangku shared, "We 
want to be the most sustainable lifestyle bag and luggage brand in the world. But sustainability is not something that can be done overnight. It is an ongoing effort, and for us, our global CEO actually had this mandate or goal we call our responsible journey."
