The retirement age of all cabin crew members of Philippine Airlines (PAL) and the Flight Attendants and Stewards Association of the Philippines (FASAP) had been set at 60 years old last year, the country's flag carrier said.

The 60 year old retirement age was in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that they signed on June 1, 2022 and affirms the principle of parity for PAL crew regardless of gender, according to the flag carrier's statement issued Friday, March 10.

PAL issued the statement following a ruling by the Supreme Court (SC) declaring unconstitutional the compulsory retirement age of the flight attendants of the Philippine Airlines, Inc. (PAL) at 55 years old for female and 60 years old for male.

PAL said the new CBA embodies PAL’s commitment to be an equal opportunity company where management and crew members work together in the spirit of productive collaboration, according to PAL.

"Following PAL’s successful restructuring process in 2021, the CBA was the product of a joint effort by management and employees to promote harmony and teamwork for the benefit of the airline’s professional crew members and the flying public."

Prior to the 2022 CBA, PAL observed the retirement age of 60 for cabin crew, in compliance with a DOLE decision issued in April 2011.

PAL is yet to receive a copy of the reported Supreme Court decision, which pertains to retirement provisions in previous CBAs that were mutually negotiated and entered into by PAL and FASAP.

The case was filed in 2004 by ten union members, according to the airline.
