Police net P19.1-M shabu, marijuana in Cordillera


LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Police arrested eight drug personalities and seized suspected shabu and marijuana worth P19.1 million in a week-long operation in the Cordillera from Feb. 25 to March 4.

The Police Regional Office-Cordillera Regional Operations Division (ROD) said the suspects yielded a total of 21.50 grams of shabu with an overall Standard Drug Price of P146,200.

Three suspects each were apprehended by the Abra Police Provincial Office and Kalinga PPO. The Benguet PPO and Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) had one each.

In Abra, the suspects were Alvin Anioay, 41; Jamaica del Prado, 35; and Juby Tugadi, 59; Romeo Mocay Jr., 35, in Benguet;  Jonathan Talaue, 31; Marlon Mendoza, 27, and Rodelio Banosan, 32, in Kalinga, and  Jhunby Diaz, 40, in Baguio.

Meanwhile, seven marijuana plantations were destroyed in Benguet and Mountain Province.

Police said 18,673 fully grown marijuana plants and 127,000 grams of dried marijuana leaves and fruiting tops with an overall SDP of P18,974,600 were discovered and burned on-site.

No cultivator was arrested by the police.

Suspects  face charges for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
