Negros Oriental 3rd district Rep. Arnie Teves said he and his brother, former governor Henry Teves won't be the ones who will "benefit" from the death of slain incumbent governor, Roel Degamo.
Rep. Teves made this claim in a video message posted Monday morning, March 6 on his Facebook.
"Again sa lahat ng krimen, ang unang hinahanap ng imbestigador at pulisya ay motibo, kung sino yung pinaka may balak at kung sino yung magkakaroon ng benepisyo sa pangyayari. Sa totoo lang wala kaming makukuhang benepisyo dito sa pangyayaring ito (Again in all crimes, the investigator or police first looks for who most likely has a motive, or who has a something to gain from the incident)," he said.
"Tandaan niyo, kung may balak man ako, o may kakayahan na gawin ito, di sana ginawa ko na ito bago pa mag-eleksyon (Remember, if I had plans to do this, or if I had the capability to do so, I would have done it before the election)," the outspoken congressman said.
"Anong motibo kung ngayon gagawin? Di ba? Hindi rin magiging benepisyaryo ako at ang kapatid ko. Dahil kung mawala ang gobernador, ang uupo naman ang vice governor (What would be the motive if it I carried out now? What? Neither me nor my brother would be the beneficiaries. Because it's the vice governor who will take over if the governor is gone)," he said.
"Hindi naman ang kapatid ko na talagang nanalo nung eleksyon, pero hindi ko alam kung anong magic na nangyari, pinababa sa pwesto ang aking kapatid (It's not my brother, who despite really winning during the election, was ordered to step down due to some magic that I don't know of)," the solon said, referring to ex-governor Teves.
On Saturday morning, March 4, Governor Degamo and five others were gunned down and killed by unidentified gunmen in Pamplona, Negros Oriental.
Degamo took over the Capitol's seat from the congressman's brother last October.
