PRO-8 ready to help commuters stranded by strike

TACLOBAN CITY – The Police Regional Office 8 (Eastern Visayas) is ready to provide free rides or “Librang Sakay”   to commuters stranded by week-long transport strike starting Monday, March 6.

Despite assurance from transport groups in major cities in the region that they will not join the nationwide transport holiday, PRO8 director Brig. Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil said they are ready to ensure the safety of the riding public.

"We will continuously monitor any possible changes and disturbances as well as provide assistance to the public," Marbil said.

Marbil said the pickup point for Libreng Sakay from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. will be at the new bus terminal in Barangay Abucay here going to Barangay Campetic, Palo, Leyte and vice versa.

A Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) team has been deployed to maintain peace and order in gatherings and protests.

The March 6 to 12 strike protests the government's transport modernization program.
