Several parts of the country may once again experience mostly cloudy skies with higher chances of rain in the coming days due to the expected resurgence of the northeast monsoon, locally called “amihan,” the state weather bureau said on Saturday morning, Feb. 25.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Weather Specialist Grace Castañeda said the resurgence of the northeast monsoon may take place beginning Sunday, Feb. 26.

“Bukas ng Linggo and by Monday ay nakikita natin ‘yung posibilidad ng pagbugso ng amihan. Makakaapekto ito sa malaking bahagi ng bansa. [D]ito sa Metro Manila, nakikita natin na by Sunday and Monday ay mostly cloudy [skies]  ang mararanasan at magiging mataas din ang tiyansa ng pag-ulan at ambon (On Sunday, Feb. 26 and by Monday, Feb. 27, we are seeing a possible resurgence of the northeast monsoon. This will affect most parts of the Philippines. In Metro Manila, we are expecting mostly cloudy skies with higher chances of rain by Sunday and Monday),” said Castañeda in a public weather forecast.

Based on the state weather bureau’s three-day weather outlook, other key cities of the country may also expect cloudy skies and light rains, especially in Baguio City and Legazpi City.

In Metro Cebu and Metro Davao, a generally fair weather condition with chances of light rain showers may prevail in the next three days, said Castañeda.

PAGASA on Saturday morning said the northeast monsoon is currently affecting Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Metro Manila, and the rest of Luzon.
