Suspect in robbery-slay of New Zealander surrenders to police

The suspect who robbed and killed a tourist from New Zealand in Makati City on Feb. 19 has surrendered to the police on Friday, Feb. 24, the Southern Police District (SPD) confirmed.

John Mar Manalo surrendered to the authorities in Pasig City accompanied by his family. However, he denied his involvement in the robbery-slay of Nicholas Peter Stacey of New Zealand.

The suspect also has a standing warrant of arrest for robbery with violence issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 12, Malolos City, Bulacan.

Prior to his surrender, Manalo was positively identified by three witnesses as the one who shot and killed 34 year-old Stacey in Barangay Palanan, Makati City.

Stacey was killed when he tried to defend his Filipina girlfriend against Manalo and his still unidentified cohort.

The SPD had earlier issued a P500,000 reward for whoever can give information on the whereabouts of Manalo.
