Police rescue woman held hostage by farmer in Abra




CAMP DANGWA, Benguet – Police rescued a 19-year-old woman from a 44-year-old farmer who held her hostage in Sitio Bagong Barrio, Barangay Nagtupacan, Lagangilang, Abra, on Tuesday, Feb. 21. 

The Lagangilang Municipal Police Station received a call from a concerned citizen that a hostage-taking incident was taking place at the house of Erick Bolanos at about 8:27 p.m.

Police found out that the suspect Errol Bolanos, 44, was holding a gun against the victim.

Lagangilang Mayor Rovelyn Villamor and Col. Maly Cula, Abra police chief, conducted negotiations
with the suspect.

After several hours of negotiations, police were able to subdue the suspect and free the victim at around 12:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22.

The victim was taken to the Abra Provincial Hospital in Bangued, Abra along with an injured policeman. 

Errol was taken to the Lagangilang police station along with the homemade caliber .22 firearm, three empty shells, and 20 live ammunition recovered from him. He is facing related charges.
