Erwin Tulfo's path to House seat wide open?

One of the nominees of the popular ACT-CIS Party-list--Rep. Jeffrey Soriano--has resigned as a congressman. But who will replace him?

Majority Leader and Zambonga City 2nd district Rep. Mannix Dalipe made the announcement during plenary session in the House of Representatives on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 22.

"We are in receipt of a letter dated Feb. 6, 2023 from Rep. Jeffrey Soriano of ACT-CIS party-list informing the honorable Speaker, Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, of his resignation as member of the House of Representatives." Dalipe said.

"Mr. Speaker, I move that we accept the resignation of Rep. Jeffrey Soriano, and for the secretary-general to be instructed to drop from the roll of members of the House of Representatives, Rep. Soriano, effective immediately," he added.

Deputy Speaker and Pampanga 3rd district Rep. Aurelio "Dong" Gonzales Jr., who presided over the plenary session, promptly carried Dalipe's motion after no one objected to it.

Political pundits believe Soriano's exit from the House paves the way for former Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) secretary Erwin Tulfo to take over the vacated seat.

However, no replacement was announced on the floor as of this posting.

Tulfo, a former broadcaster, is listed as the chairman of ACT-CIS Party-list, the top vote-getter during last year's party-list race. The party-list won three seats in the House during the May 2022 elections.

Soriano's removal from the rolls trims the House membership to 311.
