Police destroy 72 motorcycle ‘open pipe’ mufflers in Negros Occidental town

BACOLOD CITY – Authorities destroyed 72 motorcycle open pipe mufflers that were confiscated in the past three weeks in E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental.

Municipal officials led by Mayor Marvin Malacon witnessed the destruction of the open pipe mufflers in front of the municipal hall on Monday, Feb. 20.

Major Kenneth Jay Gratones, chief of E.B. Magalona police, said they have been implementing checkpoint operations in the town since January this year to identify motorcycle riders with modified mufflers.

The move was in response to the complaints of residents that many motorcycles tend to be too noisy, and that they disturb people during night time.

The confiscation of the modified mufflers is in accordance with the municipal ordinance, according to Gratones.

Gratones said that citation tickets were issued to violators, while their motorcycles were impounded at the police station, as some of them had no documents to show.

Meanwhile, Gratones expressed their gratitude to the local government for providing them 44 new pairs of police patrol shoes.
