Senior citizens in Marikina City were treated to a night of love and music as the local government organized a special free Valentine's Day concert titled "Senior Moments," on Tuesday, Feb. 14.
The program, led and co-hosted by District 1 Congresswoman Marjorie Ann "Maan" Teodoro, spread love and cheer to the city's elderly population.
"Deserve po ninyo lahat na magrelax at (maging) masaya kaya ngayong gabi ay magenjoy lang po kayo. Mga mahal naming senior citizens, gusto namin masaya ang inyong puso ngayong Valentine's Day (Enjoy tonight because you all deserve to relax and be happy. To our beloved senior citizens, we wish you happiness this Valentine's Day)," said Congresswoman Teodoro.
Marikina City Mayor Marcelino "Marcy" Teodoro also attended the concert and extended his heartfelt appreciation to the elderly community.
Crowds of seniors, along with their family members, gathered at the Marikina Sports Center for the event held at 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The concert featured live musical performances from four classic hitmakers Nonoy Zuniga ("Doon Lang," "Moon River"), Marco Sison ("My Lvoe Will See You Through," "Si Aida, Si Lorna, O Si Fe"), Hajji Alejandro ("Ang Lahat Nito'y Para Sa Iyo," "Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika") and Rey Valera ("Naaalala Ka," "Kung Kailangan Mo Ako").
Each singer performed their famous songs with the crowd singing along with them the throwback hits.
They also sang group renditions of songs from the Apo Hiking Society and the Backstreet Boys.
Congresswoman Teodoro also sang duets with the musicians.
For the finale, the group and the audience sang Rey Valera's classic song "Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko."
The night was capped by a fireworks display at the Sports Center.
The event also included dance performances from the officials of the city's 16 barangays, Vice Mayor Marion Andres, and the City Council.
The concert's organizers devised a color-coded ticket scheme with their respective entry and exit points at the sports complex; as well as created a reserved area to accommodate persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Some 60 portable toilets or comfort rooms were placed at the side of the venue while six first aid tents manned by medical workers as well as police units were stationed within the complex. Ushers were also present to help the seniors.
