Four 12,000-liter capacity water tankers were donated by the Canadian Red Cross (CRC) to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) in a ceremonial turnover on Friday, Feb. 10 at the PRC National Headquarters in Mandaluyong City.
These were tokens of appreciation for the PRC's cooperation with the CRC over the past years.
"We are grateful for the continuous partnership with the Canadian Red Cross. The four water tankers will amplify our response capacity for providing safe water in the most critical time of emergency and disasters," said PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon in his speech.
Aside from water tankers, CRC said that it will continue its partnership with PRC through the implementation of the WASH Development and Readiness Project which targets to reduce the health risks of the most vulnerable sectors.
This initiative aims to reach at least 50,000 individuals in Cebu, Leyte, and Negros Occidental, Gordon added.
"Through their support, we can reach and uplift more vulnerable communities in the Visayas region," he continued.
Among the projects that were supported and funded through the two organization's partnerships were the "provision of Shelter Tool Kits (STK) to Odette victims; construction of rainwater harvesters to Typhoon Rolly-hit communities; COVID-19 Response Support; Protection, Gender, and Inclusion (PGI) and Community Engagement Accountability (CEA); and Emergency Field Hospital Readiness Project among others."
