Kabayan Party-list Rep. Ron Salo has expressed his sincerest condolences to the families of the two Filipinos who were confirmed to have died due to the earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria last Feb. 6.
"I am deeply saddened by the loss of our fellow Filipinos in Turkey. I extend my sincerest condolences to their families and loved ones," said Salo, who works closely with overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in his capacity as chairman of the House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs.
Meanwhile, the solon commended the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) for their immediate response and assistance to our affected overseas Filipinos.
"I call on the DFA, DMW, the OWWA, and private recruitment agencies to continue the search for any missing OFWs, to monitor the situation on the ground, and to coordinate with their families in case of any developments as to the whereabouts of the missing Filipinos," Salo said.
"We must do all that we can to protect the welfare of our overseas Filipino workers, especially during times of crisis," added the veteran legislator.
The solon stressed the importance of protecting the welfare of OFWs and ensuring that they receive the support they need during times of crisis.
He reaffirmed his commitment to working with relevant government agencies to address the needs of OFWs especially after the devastating earthquake.
Salo also appealed to everyone to offer prayers for the people of Turkiye as they go through these trying times.
“Let us offer our prayers for the people of Turkiye that God grant them the strength and fortitude as they grapple with the effects of one of the worst disasters to hit the country," he said.
