Don’t worry! Heart Evangelista’s dress is not made of real crocodile skin

When it comes to statement-making OOTD inspirations, fashionistas will never be disappointed by looking at Heart Evangelista’s feed. A testament to that is her recent look courtesy of Alaïa. During an event for luxury watch brand Philip Stein, the Vogue 100 muse donned a dress from the Paris-based maison, a high-neck metallic jacquard crocodile sleeveless dress with cutouts on the hips.

After Schiaparelli’s faux animal head couture went viral online, many netizens can’t help but ask if the dress the actress wore is made of real crocodile skin. Well, you can guarantee yourself that it is not. The dress, which made its debut on the brand’s winter-spring 2023 runway show, was crafted using viscose and polyester. It was part of creative director Pieter Mulier's third collection for the maison, which “celebrates the inherent contradiction at the heart of the Maison Alaïa, a tension between control and release.”

“An innately Alaïa iconography is exalted, explored. Stretch-jersey pieces are honed to the essential, precisely reengineered to function as a second skin, leggings, draped skirts, coeur-croisé tops,” the brand says. “Skin leads to leather: mouton, raw-edged, unlined, is used to craft outerwear and separates that combine sophistication with the spontaneous gesture of materiality, laid directly against the body. Again, enigmatic—in a trompe l’oeil play, crocodile is translated to a three-dimensional jacquard, chenille can pretend to be fur.”

Heart paired the dress with the brand’s Cabaret pumps, patent calfskin Mary Jane shoes with heels inspired by the Parisian cabaret dancers.
