Three suspects tagged in slay of Negros town mayor’s brother nabbed

BACOLOD CITY – Three persons who were tagged as behind the killing of the younger brother of Valencia town Mayor Edgar Teves Jr. in Negros Oriental were arrested on Monday, Feb. 6.

Valencia police chief Major Roger Quijano said over an interview with Radyo Bandera 97.7 Sweet FM Dumaguete that policemen arrested a foreigner and his live-in partner in the said town several hours after the body of 42-year-old Don Paulo Teves was found wrapped in a plastic bag and a blanket in Purok 3, Barangay Calayugan.

Based on the statement of a witness, Quijano said the couple was reportedly last seen with the victim before the incident happened. He added that the couple was positively identified by a witness.

The following day, another person, who was believed to be in connivance with the couple, was also arrested, after he was sighted at their house on the day of the incident.

Murder charges are being readied against the three suspects, who are now under police custody.

Quijano said they are looking into grudges as a possible motive in the killing, since the victim and the foreigner allegedly had a previous altercation.

Investigation is still ongoing.
