According to the city’s public information office, the woman was reported missing on Friday afternoon, Feb. 3. She was reportedly feeding her hogs when the mine pit collapsed.

The woman’s hogs were pastured inside the mine pit located at the back of the Sabang Elementary School.

It was past 9 p.m. when personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and City Fire Department recovered the woman’s body underneath a pile of limestone.

The CDRRMO is assessing the area to determine if there is a need to implement a forced evacuation following the collapse.

“The city is assessing if the area is still safe,” said Michelle Mindigo, the city information officer.

“There could be a possible recommendation of evacuation because there are houses nearby,” added Mindigo.
