MMDA releases list of common traffic violations under single-ticketing system in NCR

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has released the common traffic violations in the National Capital Region which will be covered by the single-ticketing system that is expected to be implemented in April this year.

Currently, each of the 17 local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila has its own sets of fines and penalties for traffic violations that are stipulated in the local ordinances.

But once the single-ticketing system is implemented, MMDA chairman Romando Artes said there will be uniform penalties for the common traffic violations based on the data from the agency and the 17 LGUs.

They are disregarding traffic sign, illegal parking both attended and unattended, violation of number coding, truck ban, reckless driving, tricycle ban, obstruction, dress code for motorcycles, overloading, defective motor vehicle accessories, unauthorized modification, arrogance/discourteous conduct, loading and unloading zone in prohibited zones, illegal counterflow and overspeeding.

Illegal counterflow, unauthorized modification, truck ban, illegal parking for unattended cars and reckless driving have the heaviest penalty.

It took 28 years before Metro Manila LGUs agreed for a single-ticketing system which was repeatedly pushed by past administrations amid complaints from motorsists over varying traffic rules in NCR. Metro Manila mayors approved the resolution for its implementation on Feb. 1.

Artes said the implementation of the single-ticketing system would also pave the way for prohibition to confiscate driver’s license of erring motorists, except if necessary.

Currently, Artes said they are coordinating with the Metro Manila LGUs to determine the equipment needed for implementation of the single-ticketing system.

The MMDA has committed to shoulder all the equipment and other expenses for its implementation, including the integration to the system of the Land Transportation Office.

The MMDA is eyeing the implementation of the single-ticketing system in April this year.

On the other hand, the Metro Manila council has given all the 17 LGUs in Metro Manila until March 15 this year to amend their respective traffic ordinances which include adoption of the single-ticketing system.
