Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano commended two city police officers for rejecting a bribe amounting to P182,000 by a Chinese national who allegedly tried to negotiate for the release of his colleagues last Jan. 14.
The two policemen were Patrolmen Hever Caspe and Mark Leonard Arcilla who arrested Yi Miu, 24, at Taguig Police Substation 1 in Barangay Fort Bonifacio.
According to Taguig police chief Col. Robert Baesa, Yi allegedly tried to negotiate with the police for the release of his colleagues who were arrested in an entrapment operation for robbery extortion and violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
Yi offered Caspe and Arcilla the money, which they rejected.
"Patrolmen Caspe and Arcilla deserve commendation for upholding the integrity of the Taguig City Police. We hope that every Taguig City Police officer will have the honesty, morals, and heart of service to resist the temptation, no matter the amount offered. On our part, we are committed to continue supporting our police force and strengthening our peace and order programs to eliminate crimes in the city," said Cayetano.
Following the arrest, the bribe money and other pieces of evidence were seized, including a 9mm caliber pistol, a gun magazine loaded with seven pieces of live ammunition, and the suspect's vehicle.
