Philippine Navy (PN) ship BRP Davao del Sur (LD 602) transported on Monday, Jan. 30, a total of 358 tons of relief goods for the victims of flood caused by a shear line and low-pressure area (LPA) in Northern Mindanao.
The landing dock arrived at the Iligan City Pier in Lanao del Norte carrying food packs, kitchen kits, hygiene kits, sleeping kits, and family tents.
Upon arrival of the ship, Capt. Bennie Demetillo, commanding officer of the BRP Davao del Sur, coordinated with the regional units of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Philippine Army (PA), Philippine National Police (PNP), and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to converge efforts for the speedy hauling of the relief goods.
“The unloading of relief items has already started and is expected to be completed within three days,” Demetillo said.
The relief items will be distributed to 74,129 families or 292,734 individuals who were affected by the shear line and LPA-induced rains in Lanao del Norte since last month.
To date, there were 233 families or 710 individuals who were staying in evacuation centers in the province.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is utilizing its land, sea, and air assets to transport much-needed assistance to the victims of recent flooding.
Last Jan. 28, Navy ship BRP Tarlac (LD 601) also transported 276 tons of relief goods for the flood victims in Zamboanga Peninsula.
