CAVITE – A man was arrested for violating the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban implemented in connection with the upcoming special elections in the province’s 7th district.
In a statement, Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) says the suspect, identified as Mayaco Pacasum Jr., was accosted past midnight on Sunday, Jan. 29 in the municipality of Amadeo.
Police said the suspect’s vehicle was flagged down in a Comelec checkpoint and authorities noticed a 9 mm pistol, magazine, and ammunition on the passenger seat.
The suspect and the pieces of evidence were taken to Amadeo Municipal Police Station (MPS) for documentation.
In connection with the incident, Cavite PPO director Col. Christopher Olazo reminded residents that carrying firearms is strictly prohibited in Amadeo, Indang, Tanza, and Trece Martires City during the election period, which officially kicked off on Jan. 26.
The automated special elections on Feb. 25 is set to fill the House of Representatives (HOR) seat vacated by now-Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla.
