The move was agreed upon during last week’s meeting of the One Cebu Inter Agency Interdiction Task Force.

The creation of the task force was spearheaded by Gov. Gwen Garcia who has declared an all-out war against illegal drugs in the province.

The sub-offices that will be put up in 22 major seaports in the province will be headed by the chiefs of police of the towns where they are located. A Philippine Coast Guard officer will serve as a deputy.

The sub-offices will be under the supervision of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA-7).

Garcia said since there is no shabu laboratory in Cebu, illegal drugs make their way into the province through ports. With the sub-offices, the entry of shabu through ports will be detected, Garcia said.

A command center that will be set up at the Cebu provincial capitol in Cebu City will monitor major seaports through closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) and other communication equipment.

Anti-illegal drug offices will also be put in the future in private ports across Cebu, the task force agreed.
