Malabon Mayor Sandoval inspects gas warehouse after chlorine leak

Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval inspected on Saturday, Jan. 28, the warehouse on Kaingin St. in Tinajeros, Malabon City, where an alleged chlorine leak occurred on Friday, Jan. 27.

The city government said the warehouse is a property of Jovares Oxygen and Gas, which is a distributor of liquefied petroleum gas and oxygen tanks.

The mayor stated that the business permit of the warehouse will remain on hold until the investigation shows that the business is still safe to operate.

Sandoval also visited the eight patients who were rushed to the hospital due to breathing difficulty.

She said all patients have returned home already on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Malabon Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) put sand on the part of the warehouse that tested positive for chlorine.

BFP said they are still investigating the cause of the leakage.

"Nakapanayam natin ang may-ari ng warehouse upang alamin ang kanilang aksyon sa nasabing insidente. Tinatapos na rin tabunan ng buhangin ang mga stagnant water (We interviewed the owner of the warehouse to check their action on the said incident. The stagnant waters are also being covered with sand)," the mayor said.

"Patuloy ang ating pakikipagtulungan sa Malabon BFP, DRRMO at iba pang departamento ng ating lokal na pamahalaan upang siguraduhing ligtas ang bawat komunidad at ating mga kababayan sa mga insidente na gaya nito (We continue to work with the Malabon BFP, DRRMO and other departments of our local government to ensure that every community and our fellow citizens are safe from incidents like this)," she added.
