2 injured as fire hits residential area in QC


Two residents were hurt in a fire that affected at least 30 informal settler families (ISFs) on Gumamela Street in Barangay Roxas, Quezon City on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Senior Fire Officer 4 Rolando Valena of the Quezon Fire District (QCFD) said a 63-year-old man sustained minor contusions on both arms while a 14-year-old boy got a wound on his forehead. Both were immediately given first aid.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire started at 2:59 p.m. It reached the alarm at 3:06 p.m. and the second alarm at 3:12 p.m.

The blaze immediately spread to adjacent houses made of light materials.

The firefighters said the blaze was placed under control at 3:54 p.m. and was extinguished at 4:32 p.m.

Based on the initial investigation, poor maintenance of the electrical service line was the cause of the fire that razed at least 30 houses.

Authorities placed the estimated cost of damage at P75,000.
