LTO suspends driving school in Cebu City

CEBU CITY – A driving school here was suspended for three months after it was caught using a vehicle without the required markings for its Practical Driving Course (PDC).

Aside from the suspension of its accreditation, Cebu Integrated Driving School, located in Barangay Bulacao, was also fined P10,000.

The Land Transportation Office-Central Visayas (LTO-7) also suspended the accreditation and slapped a P10,000 fine on the driving school’s instructor, Marlon Orcullo.

The LTO-7 had also previously suspended the accreditation of a driving school in Danao City for fraudulent issuance of theoretical driving certificates.

LTO 7 Director Victor Caindec said running after erring driving schools is in line with the anti-corruption drive of LTO chief Assistant Secretary Jose Arturo Tugade.

“Our continued efforts are based on the directives of our Chief Assistant Secretary that we are just slowly implementing in the region. More is coming and these are just a few of the many cases that we are focusing on now. We will not stop because they are abusing,” said Caindec.

In suspending the driving school, Caindec cited LTO Memorandum Circular 2021-2284 Section 10-D which states that all motor vehicles used in the practical instruction shall bear markings "CAUTION-STUDENT DRIVER.”

The markings should be in a white capital letter at least eight inches in height with a red background and readable from the back of the motor vehicle, the resolution said.
