Cop’s son dies after accidentally shooting self with dad's gun inside Bulacan school

A 12-year-old son of a policeman died after he accidentally shot himself with his father’s gun inside a school in Barangay Muzon, City of San Jose Del Monte (CSJDM), on Thursday morning, Jan. 26.

Lt. Col. Ronaldo Lumactod, CSJDM police chief, said the boy died at about 1:00 p.m. in the hospital due to a bullet wound. A shrapnel was recovered from the skull of the victim.

Based on the report submitted to Col. Relly B. Arnedo, Bulacan police director, the incident happened at around 5:40 a.m. on Thursday inside the school's comfort room.

Investigation revealed that the boy took the issued firearm of his father, who is a police officer currently assigned in Camp Crame, Quezon City, from their house and brought it to the school.

The victim apparently toyed with the gun which accidentally went off. The bullet hit his chin and went through his nasal cavity, police said.

Teachers rushed the injured boy to a nearby hospital. He was transferred to the Skyline Hospital and Medical Center where he died.
