The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) partnered with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Man is Brother Unto Man Foundation for a bloodletting activity held on Monday, Jan. 23 in Port Area, Manila.
The bloodletting activity generated 247 blood units, PRC said.
Man is Brother Unto Man Foundation also distributed food and other giveaways to PCG personnel who participated in the event, PRC added.
It is a non-government organization established to support the members of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity.
The initiative was organized by PRC governor Jennifer Ann Munar in partnership with Fleet Commander Rear Admiral Charlie Rances.
"This bloodletting event is just the beginning. PRC and the PCG will regularly hold mobile blood donation activities every three months to ensure that there is an adequate blood supply in our blood centers," said Munar.
PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon also expressed his gratitude for the blood donors and volunteers.
"We appreciate the volunteerism of the members of the Philippine Coastguard, headed by Fleet Commander Rances. Your volunteerism as blood donor will definitely help save the lives of our fellow Filipinos during medical emergencies," Gordon said.
PRC noted that it has already dispensed 19,938 blood units from Jan. 1 to 18.
"For blood donations, blood requests, and other inquiries, email the PRC National Blood Services at [email protected] or contact the PRC Blood Call Center, which may be reached nationwide by dialing 143, or (02) 87902300," the organization added.
