On Chinese New Year, President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. encouraged the Filipino-Chinese community to exercise deeper compassion toward those who have less in life.
In a message on Sunday, Jan. 22, Marcos extended his "hope and excitement" in welcoming a "new dawn" symbolizing the aspirations for prosperity that abide in the Filipino-Chinese community.
"Truly, I am glad to begin this fresh chapter with you all—especially with our Filipino-Chinese communities in the country—in securing the good fortune, joy, and harmony that will be our guiding light in writing our shared history anew," the President said.
"May this auspicious day not only remind us of the blessings we have at hand, but also inspire us to exercise deeper compassion to those who have less in life," he added.
The chief executive also enjoined the Chinese-Filipino community to delve in the cultural richness that binds both communities and focus on the "common thread" that reaffirms their bond.
"As we observe this occasion, let us delve into the cultural and historical richness that has made our nation the colorful and vibrant society that it is today," Marcos said.
"Let us also focus on the common thread that reaffirms the bonds of our kinship and friendship that have allowed us to withstand all challenges and overcome ordeals that have come our way," Marcos added.
He also urged Filipino-Chinese to work hand-in-hand and "be renewed with a sense of solidarity from which our hopes for better tomorrow will spring forth."
During the new year celebration hosted by the Chinese Embassy on Jan. 16, Marcos conveyed his hope for a better tomorrow for the Philippines and China.
