Laborer gunned down in Quezon


SARIAYA, Quezon – A 40-year-old laborer was gunned down and his companion was wounded by men onboard a motorcycle on Tuesday night, Jan. 17, in Barangay Manggalang Bantillan, here.

Police identified the victim as Edgardo de Castro of Barangay Lutucan Malabag here.

Investigation showed that the victim and his companion, Gerry Escovilla, 39, also a laborer and resident of Barangay Lutucan Malabag, were waiting for somebody onboard a motorcycle at about 6:30 p.m. when two men riding a motorcycle appeared and stopped in front of the victims.

The back rider drew a gun and fired at the victims. De Castro died on the spot and Escovilla was taken to the Candelaria Doctors Hospital.

The suspects fled toward Barangay San Isidro. Police have yet to identify the suspects and determine the motive of the crime but are conducting a pursuit operation.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old construction worker was shot dead while his eldest brother was wounded in their barracks by a 33-year-old construction worker on Sunday night, Jan. 15, in Barangay Pagaspas, Tanauan City, Batangas.

Police identified the fatality as Adrian and the wounded as Angelbert, 27, both surnamed Leon. The suspect, Gringo Deliosa, 33, fled with the murder weapon.
