Bureau of Immigration (BI) officers have arrested a Canadian who claimed to be Filipino at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Travel control and enforcement unit (TCEU) officials told BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco that the 49-year-man man, whose name was withheld, was about to board an Eva Air flight to Taiwan when intercepted as his true identity could not be clearly established.
The foreign-looking passenger presented a Philippine passport, but can't speak Tagalog , or any local dialect as well answer basic questions about his correct identity.
He later admitted, however, his lawyer processed his birth certificate and Filipino passport which turned out to be fraudulent.
BI’s database revealed that the suspect had been flying in and out of the country using Canadian and Hong Kong passports.
The suspect, who also hold a permanent residence visa, was turned over to the BI’s lawyers for investigation for violation of the Philippine Immigration Law.
