ILOILO CITY – The world-renowned Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra on Wednesday, Jan. 11, performed amid rain in front more than 2,000 residents of the island-province of Guimaras.

People held umbrellas as they watched the first performance of the resident orchestra of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CPP) in the province at the capitol grounds in the provincial capital of Jordan.

“This historic concert is the first in the Province of Guimaras as we aim to bring beautiful and timeless music closer to Guimarasnons, and to inculcate the appreciation of culture in the young Guimarasnons through music and arts,” the Guimaras tourism office posted on its official Facebook page.

Under the baton of Maestro Herminigildo Ranera, the orchestra performed a number of classical and modern medleys.

Along with The Nightingales, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra also performed a special rendition of the Hiligaynon lullaby of “Ili Ili, Tulog Anay.”

The concert was hosted by the provincial government headed by Gov. JC Rahman Nava in partnership with the Office of Rep. Maria Lucille Nava and the CCP.

The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra performs next in Iloilo City on Jan. 13 and 14.
