CEBU CITY – Close to P30-million worth of suspected shabu was seized less than a month after a new director of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7) was installed.

From Dec. 19 to Jan. 9, a total of 280 anti-illegal drug operations were conducted in Central Visayas in which 4,4038.88 grams of shabu worth P27,463,384 were confiscated.

Police also seized 404.60 grams of marijuana with an estimated value of P48,552 during the period.

The PRO-7 said that 351 drug personalities were arrested in 280 operations.

The new PRO-7 director, Brig. Gen. Jerry Bearis, was appointed last Dec. 20. He replaced Brig. Gen. Roderick Augustus Alba whose stint at PRO-7 lasted only for two months.

Bearis credited the PRO-7’s effective anti-illegal drug campaign to the BIDA (Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan) program of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

Bearis said the program allows the police to strengthen its partnership with the community “that broadens our network and source of information in the pursuit of these drug personalities across the region.”

“We are all in this together towards a great environment for our children and for the best version of our country’s future,” Bearis said.
