The Department of Health (DOH) said that more than 73 million individuals were already fully-vaccinated against Covid-19.

"As of Jan. 8, 2022, almost 73.8 million Filipinos have been fully-vaccinated," the DOH said.

The figure includes 6.9 million senior citizens, 10 million adolescents, and 5.4 million children aged five to 11, the Health department reported.

"Almost 21.2 million individuals have received their first booster dose and almost 3.8 million have received their second booster shots," the DOH noted.

Aside from vaccination, the DOH reminded the public that practicing the minimum public health standards can help protect themselves against the viral illness.

"Even if our cases remain low, let us continue to employ our layers of protection such as wearing of masks, isolating when sick, ensuring good ventilation, and most importantly, getting vaccinated and boosted against the virus," the DOH said.

During a press briefing on Tuesday, DOH Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the Covid-19 cases in the country continue to decline.

However, Vergeire said that they observed an increase of one percent in the number of new cases on Tuesday but this rise was not "significant," noting that nationally, cases are still on a downward trend.

The DOH will continuously monitor the case trend considering the recent conduct of activities related to the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

Vergeire explained that there is a two week incubation period before they can see if there will be changes in the case trend.
