Deaths of carabaos in Cagayan linked to anthrax probed


The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVET) is thoroughly investigating the deaths of several carabaos in Cagayan attributed to anthrax.

The Cagayan Provincial Information Office said the PVET technical team and other government agencies are collecting samples in areas where these carabaos died.

They will be sent to the Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory for analysis to find out the real cause of their deaths.

Suspected anthrax cases were reported in Logung, Amulung; Liwan Norte, Enrile; Tamban, Alcala; Balagan, Santo Ninõ; and Quibal, Peñablanca.

Four carabaos had earlier died due to anthrax in Callasitan, Santo Niño and carabeef was sold in Amulung.

Fourteen more carabaos died due to anthrax in Barangay Abariongan Ruar, Balagan, and Cabayo in Santo Nino; Liwan, Enrile; Logung and Calintaan, Amulung; and Tamban, Alcala.
