Bustos town celebrates 106th founding anniversary, 13th Minasa Festival

Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio attended on Monday, Jan. 9, the celebration of the 106th founding anniversary and the 13th Minasa Festival of Bustos, Bulacan that highlighted the history, culture, and people of the town.

The Office of the Vice President delivered 200 sacks of rice which will be distributed to the families affected by the flood caused by the release of excess water from Bulacan dams.

The event was held in partnership with the office of Bulacan Gov. Daniel R. Fernando, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), and Bustos Mayor Francis "Iskul" G. Juan,

Both the town’s festival and founding anniversary are celebrated every second week of January.

Mayor Juan said the "Minasa Festival" is named after the town's famous milk biscuit which is made by actual hand mixing and flattening of the flour mixture or batter.

Citing historians, Juan said this favorite homemade merienda or snack was exclusively prepared and eaten by rich folks and their guests during the Spanish time.

He said the week-long celebration of the 13th Minasa festivity features a Bustos band showdown, a colorful parade and street dancing, local food fair, and a tourist spots exhibit.

Aside from Duterte-Carpio and Fernando, present at the 13th Minasa Festival were Senator Imee Marcos, Senator Christopher "Bong" Go, and Bulacan Vice Gov. Alexis C. Castro.
